This Global Goals Week is shaping up to be the biggest one yet, with dozens of events uniting people from all walks of life around a common mission: a sustainable future.
This month, heads of state and top diplomats gather at the United Nations to consult on the biggest challenges facing the world. At the same time, movers and shakers from government, civil society and business will be in New York to add their voices and ideas to the debate.
Three years ago, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, or Global Goals, to create a better world. These Goals promise to end poverty, fight inequality and protect the planet with a timeframe that reflects the urgency of these issues. Now it’s up to all of us – governments, businesses, civil society and the general public – to make this vision a reality.
“The Sustainable Development Goals present both a bold vision for a better future and a challenge for collective action to achieve the goals,” UN Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin says. “Global Goals Week is a response to that challenge – creating opportunities for partners from many different areas to work together to drive change.”
Timed to coincide with the opening of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, Global Goals Week 2018 takes place from 22 to 29 September. And while the General Assembly meets at UN Headquarters in New York, Global Goals Week meets you where you are.
Collaboration is at the heart of Global Goals Week. With more than 30 partners participating, the Week brings people together to trade ideas, identify solutions and forge stronger partnerships for sustainable development.
The aim is to speed up progress on the Global Goals by raising awareness, driving concrete action and holding leaders to their pledges. Here are just a few of the events taking place during Global Goals Week.
The Social Good Summit takes place on 23 September and unites a lively community of digital citizens committed to unlocking technology’s potential to make the world a better place. #2030NOW.

The Global Citizen Festival caps off the week, bringing together top artists with world leaders to celebrate citizen action and reaffirm commitments towards ending extreme poverty.
A key feature of Global Goals Week is that it brings these important discussions outside of UN walls, beyond New York City and beyond the usual crowd.
No matter who you are or where you are, there are many ways to get involved in Global Goals Week. Learn about the SDGs and connect with others who share your commitment by linking up with one of these events.

The Global Goals Jam is a global community of change-makers designing interventions aimed at short-term targets in support of the long-term Goals. You can join an existing event or host your own! #Design2030Now
“Global Goals week is an invitation to people across the world to celebrate that which unites us. Whether as individuals, families, communities or countries - everyone is welcome to become part of this global movement dedicated to our common future. Global Goals week connects millions of people and countless initiatives committed to making a difference.”
- Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator
The 2030 Agenda is a vision for a better future for both people and our planet. The Global Goals provide the roadmap for getting there. But none of it will be possible without global solidarity and concrete action from people all over the world – including you.
As UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed says: “Global Goals Week calls for collective action, creativity, innovation and commitment to deliver on the SDGs for everyone, everywhere.”
